Due to the social distancing guidelines for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, First Holy Communion preparation in Fall 2020 looks quite a bit different than it has in the past. All events will be online through the end of December. We will re-evaluate our method of content delivery based on Archdiocese of Los Angeles guidelines for the beginning of 2021. We have worked diligently and creatively to provide children with the best opportunity possible to prepare for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion while adhering to the current guidelines in ADLA. Here's what to expect:
Parent Phone Call Orientation: Our Youth and Family Ministry staff will schedule a phone call with each family so that they can get to know a little more about our ministry and expectations for the year and so we can get to know each family a little better. Each family will sign up ahead of time for a scheduled phone call. Phone call sign-ups will be available in September. Calls will take place Monday – Friday, 9/21-9/25.
Welcome Drive Thru: On Monday, September 28, we will host a "Welcome Drive Thru" so that every family is able to receive the proper supplies necessary for FHC Prep from September - December. Children are required to be in the car to receive their special "FHC Welcome Kit."
Mass with Family: Each family is expected to attend Mass at least once a month. With social distancing restrictions in place, each family has the option to attend either an in-person Mass or one that is recorded and online. We will keep each family updated with in-person Mass schedules and links to our St. Bruno online Mass.
Zoom with Teacher: Each child will meet with their FHC Teacher and fellow classmates throughout the Fall months on Zoom for 30-45 mins. Under the direction of their First Holy Communion teacher, they will cover various topics and complete activities together. All activities and resources will be provided in the "FHC Welcome Kit."
Craft and Prayer Services: A Prayer Service for both Thanksgiving and Christmas will be digitally streamed for all children and their families. Families could choose one of the two times offered, depending on what works best for their schedule. A craft activity will follow the Prayer Service. All materials will be provided in the "FHC Welcome Kit."
Parent Nights: We strongly believe in the value of the entire family being on this journey of faith together. Throughout the year, we will provide nights exclusively for parents to strengthen your faith and help connect you more deeply with each other and the Church.
Supplemental Materials: Before each Zoom meeting, parents will be provided a link to various videos and supplemental material in reference to the topic that will be covered with their FHC teacher. The short videos that Matthew Kelly's Blessed Curriculum provide are a wonderful at-home resource for families with young children.
What if my child is older and needs to receive their First Holy Communion?

How will FHC Prep change in the Spring?
We will continue to monitor the guidelines from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in planning for the months of January thru May. We hope to return to in-person sessions for all children in FHC Prep.
Can you provide more information on the registration fee?
The registration fee is $200. During the registration process, you have the option to pay in full or pay $100 at the time of registration and the additional $100 will be automatically collected on November 30, 2020. We extended this time frame more than usual to better accommodate our families. We kept the registration fees for our ministries as low as possible while still working diligently to provide a wonderful, creative opportunity to experience of our Catholic faith in these circumstances for your children and families. We will provide each child a "Welcome Kit" with materials for the content we are providing “virtually” in the Fall along with our Crafts & Prayer Services, Parent Nights, additional content we are planning for in the Spring, and other fun surprises along the way. If you have more than one child in our ministries, you can enter the coupon code SBYFM20! during registration for each of your children. This will provide a $10 discount for each of your children.
When does registration close?
Registration will close on Sunday, September 20 at midnight.
